Be careful what you say "YES" to!

Agnes Blas Lorenzana (on my right) has been my childhood friend since we were tiny kids at Teresiana (now Poveda). So when her hubby called to say he was planning a surprise birthday party for her on Sept 21, I readily and excitedly agreed. Little did I know what I was in for!
He said he was planning a little program and he wanted us to do a blast from the past. Magoo, my partner in crime in Poveda days and I were asked to do a retro '70s number. (This was a big hit in our Poveda reunion in 2004. ) Sure! Game!
I thought this was going to be a small party with a small group of family and friends in a small private venue.
Well, Magoo, Grace and I came up with a new, crazy, funky Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" number complete with choreography, Afro wigs, outfits and all. (Except this time, it became "Hot Flush" in honor of our bday celebrant!)
Agnes' hubby said he also invited other "world class performers"." Haha, Ya right!" we thought.
He wasn't kidding!!! The "small affair' turned out to be a fancy dinner at Le Souffle Rockwell and his world class performers who came and sang were Ryan Cayabyab and his singers who gave a medley of tunes from Les Miserables and other Broadway and Filipino classics as well as Robert Sena who sang songs from Phantom of the Opera. above: Magoo,me,Agnes, Ryan,Grace
Yougottabe kidding!!! They were world class alright! While we were only pang -classroom quality. Ayayay! But out of love for our dear friend (Hengy, you owe us one!) this Poveda group of Internationally Unknown, Nationally Ignored Artists put on our wigs a nd strutted our stuff.
The audience cheered!
The applause w as loud.
Maybe they were so relieved our dance was over!
Haha! I couldn't tell for sure, my afro was too furry!
At the end we thanked our sponsors:
*Salonpas for body aches & pains *Ryan Cayabyab for our musical arrangement *Popot Lorenzana for our talent fee
We also declined press interviews. As you can see, we're very shy! ; >
   | Ms. Marie! Hahaha, ang galing naman! How cool of you to do this for a friend. Looked like a lot of fun!
Did you ever try this hairstyle for real in the 70's? ;) |
 | Oh marie I love it!!! And I love the way you completely ommitted saying it was the ___th birthday of Henggee...that would have given us all away! I mean...it is SO traumatic to turn 30 right?? buti nalang next year pa tayo. Magoo |
 | Hahahahahaha! They're asking me to dance in our next Poveda School Reunion... Uhh.. No! Haha!! |
 | Haaay naku... Unbelievable! What class 76 can still do! From now on people will remember the song as Hot Flush. Sobrang lakas ng recall! So we haven't aged much... At least our spirits have kept us young and daring. But I would rather just watch and manage you from the sidelines, maybe fund your talents for some retro event. My friends and family were really entertained by your surprise number. Am sure you all insisted on that 'toned down' number. Those wigs are a statement of our time, our friendship, and happy times together. We have been blessed! Agnes |

 | Hi Marie.
I deposited your talent fee with the Banque de Nacional Iceland on Sept 22,2008 - the day after your world-class performance. Please check reference # 49.95, guaranteed by the US subprime loans and insured by AIG. Seriously, your performance was the toast of the night. Agnes and all the guests truly had a blast from the past. Thank you again and again to you, Magoo, Grace, Vida and Nena!
